Dr. Frenz is a board-certified adult psychiatrist who works with a variety of outpatients. He specializes in depression, anxiety, professional burnout, loss, and relationship stress. He utilizes both medications and therapy for people from age 19 to 65, depending on need. He is in-network for all Blue Cross/Blue Shield plans as well as MGB employee plans(Allways plans that start with the prefix CDW).
He has worked at McLean and UMass Memorial Hospitals in the past in addition to private practice. He has held diverse roles including attending psychiatrist in the clinical evaluation center and former assistant medical director at Naukeag ( a dual-diagnosis residential program). He has also worked with the depression unit and with the division of drug and alcohol abuse.
He has spent many years with a wide variety of outpatient settings, from an outpatient clinic at Harvard Vanguard, to the residency clinic at UMass as well as working at Two Brattle Center with DBT. He has developed a wide set of skills to work with a diverse patient population. From these experience, he has decided to form his own private practice and combine skills and techniques he has learned.
Dr. Frenz's style is eclectic and draws from many approaches- dynamic, behavioral, MI and sometimes purely practical. After an initial one to three session evaluation period, he will discuss what makes most sense going forward. For some people, that answer is medication, for others therapy or just reassessing life choices. The plan will be a collaborative, measurable goal that can be reassessed.
When medications are the answer, Dr. Frenz's style is to try to limit the number and strength of medication as much as possible to limit the side effects. He does not prescribe high-dose benzodiazapines or stimulants and given the current state of substance abuse is very cautious about any medication that may lead to an addiction.
Dr. Frenz also works collaboratively with your primary care doctor and other health care providers to provide integrated care.
