Dr. Sonia Lohiya Krishna is a board certified physician specializing in Child, Adolescent, and Adult Psychiatry, and Integrative Holistic Medicine. She graduated from the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and completed her residency/fellowship training at the UCLA Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior. Dr. Krishna has worked in a variety of centers including: academic hospitals, Veterans Affairs, integrated primary care clinics, and county facilities.
After moving to Austin in 2014, Dr. Krishna was faculty at UTMB, Texas A&M, and Dell Medical School where she supervised medical students, residents, and fellows during clinical rotations. She worked in the outpatient clinic at Texas Child Study Center, inpatient child and adolescent psychiatry unit at Seton Shoal Creek, and consultation-liaison team at Dell Children’s Medical Center. She worked closely with the DCMC Foundation to fundraise the millions of dollars needed to create the state-of-the-art Grace Grego Maxwell Mental Health Unit.
Recognizing her hard work, the Travis County Medical Society named her the 2017 Ruth M. Bain Young Physician of the Year. She has also earned the highest honors in her field's professional organizations - Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and Distinguished Fellow of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
Dr. Krishna serves as an expert consultant to the United States Food and Drug Administration's Psychopharmacologic Drug Advisory Committee. She has published papers, presented research and led workshops at local, national, and international conferences. She has also appeared on many media outlets to improve public health.
She started her private practice in 2019 to provide excellent, patient centered, and collaborative care to children and families.
